Painting No. 48

ID: #6449 | Modern artists | Still life

The image is an abstract painting with a rich palette of colours and varied shapes. The use of geometric shapes and edges creates a dynamic composition where we can observe circles, ovals and jagged lines. The spontaneous brushwork and strong contours result in an expressive character. The colours are vivid and contrasting, with shades of yellow, red, blue and white creating the illusion of movement and energy.

Prevailing color of this fine art print is vivid and its shape is square. This image is printed on demand - you can choose material, size and finishing.

American modernist Marsden Hartley (1877-1943) worked in a shoe factory from early childhood. He had to save up for an artistic education. He studied in New York at the School of Art and the National Academy of Design. Like Andy Warhol, his art was transcendent, a sort of spiritual journey. This is evident for example in the painting Heaven. In 1913, he went to Europe to seek inspiration from leading European modernists. Pablo Picasso or Paul Cézanne abundantly contributed to the formation of Hartley’s painting style. When he arrived in Berlin, another modern painter, Wassily Kandinsky, took him under his wing. Hartley admired Bavarian art until the outbreak of the First World War. It is said that he was very close with the Prussian Lieutenant Karl von Freyburg, who also frequently appeared in Hartley paintings. He then alternately lived in the US and Europe continued to paint throughout the world until 1943, when he died and his ashes were scattered into the Androscoggin River.
