Karl Oscar Isakson (1878-1922) was a Swedish painter born in Stockholm to a poor blacksmith’s family, whose father died soon after his birth. Isakson was very clever and sought an escape from his miserable life through drawing. From the age of 13, he worked during the day and spent his nights reading and attending evening drawing classes. His employer Carl Larsson supported him, and before completing the Swedish Academy, he travelled on a grant to Italy, where Paul Cézanne took him under his wing. His paintings - Standing Nude make him one of the fathers of modern painting in Denmark, where he lived most of his life . Before the World War, he painted many landscapes around the military base Christiansø ( View of Gudhjem). When the base was closed, he mentally collapsed and never recovered. In his life, he did not host many exhibitions. His art gained value only after his death at an exhibition in Stockholm in 1922.
