Anna Archer (1859-1935) was born in the Danish town of Skagen. She studied painting in Copenhagen, where she developed her own distinctive style. She painted interiors, Room with Clematis, and the lives of ordinary men, women and children. She liked playing with colours and sunlight, which can be seen in the picture Sun in the Blue Room. In 1880, she married and despite the social pressure on a married woman, she did not succumb and continued painting. After Anna’s death, a museum was constructed in her house. In 2004, she was eternalised on a banknote along with her husband.
