Georgia Totto O’Keeffe (1887-1986). American painter. She came to the centre of public attention at the end of World War II in New York. She painted large-scale paintings of details of flowers, captured through a magnifying glass. Some images can be interpreted as a Freudian like view of female genitals (albeit it’s a detail of irises). In her time, she was either criticized for this or, conversely, appreciated by some feminists. In the 30s, she took a liking to the north of New Mexico, which became the subject of many of her paintings (eg. Lake George ).
